Spring Volleyball Schedule Set
December 21, 2020 | Volleyball
ATHENS, Ga. – The Southeastern Conference has announced its slate of volleyball matches set to take place in Spring 2021. The University of Georgia volleyball program will begin spring play Jan. 29.
The spring schedule will follow the format the SEC used for the fall: two matches against the same opponent in the same week on back-to-back days. Teams will play eight conference opponents for a total of 16 matches with four series at home and four on the road. Matches may be played Wednesday/Thursday, Thursday/Friday, Friday/Saturday or Saturday/Sunday. The schedule includes a week at the end of the season for any makeups matches for all schools.
Georgia concluded fall play with a 4-4 record against its first four SEC opponents. The fall was highlighted by a win over then-No. 5 Florida in Gainesville on Nov. 20. The Bulldogs split all four two-match series.
The spring slate will begin for Georgia Jan. 29 and 30 at Mississippi State. Georgia will then return to Stegeman Coliseum for back-to-back series against Arkansas (Feb. 4-5) and Kentucky (Feb. 13-14). The Bulldogs then hit the road for a series at Missouri (Feb. 19-20). Arkansas (#15), Kentucky (#2), and Missouri (#8) all concluded the fall ranked in the AVCA top-15 poll.
Following a bye week, Georgia returns to action at Auburn (Mar. 6-7) before hosting Texas A&M at Stegeman Mar. 12-13. The final road series will be at LSU Mar. 19-20 and the 2020-21 regular season will conclude in Athens against Ole Miss Mar. 24-25.
Television information and start times will be announced at a later date.
The NCAA announced in early November the volleyball tournament will feature a 48-team bracket, reduced from the normal 64 teams. Thirty-two will be automatic qualifiers with 16 at-large bids. The selections are scheduled to be announced April 4.
