When Caitlin Hose isn't doing schoolwork or on the basketball court, you might find the Georgia women's basketball junior playing the guitar or painting. When she was back home in Hazel Green, Ala., during the quarantine amid the coronavirus pandemic, she did a lot of both.

The 5-foot-9 guard said during a recent Quick Chat that she's been working on one painting off and on for more than a year. She also talked about playing football when she was young, adjusting to online classes, and much more.

Here's some of what she had to say:

Frierson: With everything going on with the pandemic, how much different does this season feel?

Hose: It's been different, the way we set up and stuff in the gym on game days, but as far as preparing and practice-wise, it's pretty much the same.

Frierson: What does it feel like to be at this point in your career? Does your freshman year already feel like a long time ago?

Hose: [Laughs] Yeah, freshman year, thinking about it, it seems like it was a hot minute ago, but in the grand scheme of things, honestly, it's kind of flown by.

Frierson: How did this fall semester feel for you? You weren't really on campus and you weren't interacting with people the way you normally would, so did you miss the campus life aspect of being a college student?

Hose: I do miss that. It's fun getting out and going to class, and meeting new people and professors, but it was also kind of nice to have all online classes. I don't necessarily have to get up as early [laughs] and stuff like that.

Frierson: For those of us that haven't been in a classroom in a long time, what is it like doing online classes? How different is it from being in the classroom?

Hose: I've kind of gotten used to it, but definitely at first it was a lot different. I didn't really take a lot of online courses before, but you get used to it. It's kind of hard to get used to, though.

Frierson: How did you fill the hours when you were back home in the spring? Did you pick up any new hobbies or reacquaint yourself with any old ones?

Hose: I definitely worked out a lot and got in the gym when I could. I also play guitar a little bit and I did that a lot, and I painted some. Also, me and my teammate Jenna (Staiti), we went to Nashville a couple of times and we went down to Tampa and rode some jet-skis and hung out.

Frierson: How long have you been playing the guitar? And do you have a favorite song to play?

Hose: I haven't really been playing that long, and I'm still learning, so I'm not like an expert or anything like that. I don't know if I have a favorite song right now, it's just songs that I like listening to that I try to learn how to play.

Frierson: Is painting a new thing for you or were you doing that before the pandemic?

Hose: Since high school and some of the art classes I took, I've been painting since then. I have one painting I've been working on for almost a year now. I haven't finished it because I've been working on it off and on. It's a portrait of Nipsy Hussle, the rapper. I just kind of freehanded it and now I'm working on painting it. I need to get back to it, honestly.

Frierson: When you're in that painting mode, does the rest of the world kind of fade away?

Hose: Yeah, I like to just throw on some music, maybe light a candle, and just paint. It clears your mind and it's kind of fun for me, too.

Frierson: We've got the holidays coming up here soon, so what is the best present you've ever received?

Hose: That one's really tough. I'm going to be kind of be bland here and say, the one time I got a new phone. That was kind of cool.

Frierson: What is the best gift you've ever given someone?

Hose: When I like to give people gifts, I'm a big shoe person. Shoes are kind of easy for me so I like to do that.

Frierson: I know Chloe Chapman is like a world-class sneakerhead, are you a sneakerhead as well?

Hose: A little bit, not like Chloe is.

Frierson: Did you play a bunch of different sports growing up?

Hose: I played volleyball, of course basketball and softball. And I have two older brothers so I was a little tomboy at one point and actually played a year of football.

That was a long time ago. It was a tackle football team and I played for a year or a year and a half, something like that. I want to say maybe a running back and a safety, or something like that. It was pretty fun, though.

Frierson: Did that experience help you when it came to basketball, as far as being more aggressive and being more comfortable with contact?

Hose: Oh, I definitely think so. That and growing up with two brothers [laughs].

Frierson: Are you all competitive with each other?

Hose: All the time. They always claim that they can beat me at basketball but they know they can't. When we're all home at the same time, we sometimes like to get in the gym and play pickup and shoot around. That's when I have to show them what's up [laughs].

Frierson: Who is the funniest person on the team?

Hose: That's a tough one. Can I give you my top three?

Frierson: Of course.

Hose: I would definitely say Maya Caldwell, Que Morrison, and just because me and Jenna are best friends I'd definitely say Jenna, too.

Frierson: What is it like being on a team with so many seniors and players that you've played with for a number of years now? Do you feel like that's making a difference on the court?

Hose: I definitely think it makes a difference. It's my third year so I've played with the majority of the girls for three years now. You develop that chemistry on and off the court, and I think that it all translates to on the court when we're playing together. It's a lot of fun.
