Bulldogs Round Out Day 2 at Gamecock SEC Scramble

COLUMBIA, S.C.— The University of Georgia men's tennis team battled the Tennessee Vols Saturday afternoon, winning two singles and two doubles matches, to round out Day Two at the Gamecock Southeastern Conference Scramble.
"We had a tough, competitive match today against a good Tennessee team," head coach Manuel Diaz said. "It is exactly what we needed to get better and tougher. We were not as sharp as we were yesterday in some ways but competed well. Tomorrow will be a great test against South Carolina."
To start, the Bulldogs and Vols duked it out in doubles to eventually split with two victories apiece.
Bulldog tandem of sophomore Trent Bryde and freshman Tyler Zink defeated Vols Adam Walton and Pat Harper, 8-7 (7-5). The Georgia pair – each a 2020 ITA All-American – are now 2-0 for the weekend.
Sophomore Britton Johnston and freshman Niklas von Hellens – also 2-0 together this weekend – ousted Joel Gamerov and Luca Wiedenmann, 8-7 (7-4).
Next in singles, sophomores Bryde and Philip Henning highlighted the action for Georgia.
Despite falling in the first set, Bryde held strong to force a third and win in straight sets, 4-6, 6-3, 6-1. Henning also won a hard-fought three-set match, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.
