WEST POINT, Miss. — The Georgia women's golf team posted a 2-under 286 – its second under-par tally in as many days – in Wednesday's final round of the Ally at Old Waverly Golf Club. The Bulldogs continued their ascent on the team leaderboard, wrapping up play in fifth at 4-over 868.

"We just continued to trust that we're good enough to shoot under-par as a team every day," head coach Josh Brewer said. "We focused on what we've been working on and staying patient. For the most part, that's what it was the last two days. Honestly, it's a great quality to have to play your best golf late in the tournament and move past people."

After standing in 10th place after the opening round, the Bulldogs moved to eighth yesterday and fifth today.

Céleste Dao supplied Georgia's low score on Wednesday with a 3-under 69. Jenny Bae fired a 2-under 70, Jo Hua Hung notched an even-par 72 and Caterina Don signed for a 75 to round out the Bulldogs' counting tallies.

Bae led the way for the Bulldogs overall with a third-place individual finish by shooting 6-under 210. Bae's spot on the leaderboard and her 54-hole tally both represent career bests. Her previous low 54-hole score was 3-over.

In addition, Don tied for 16th at 1-over 217, Hung placed 48th at 224, Dao tied for 49th at 225 and Candice Mahe, who shot 79 on Wednesday, tied for 59th at 230.

"Jenny has played really well all fall and back into the summer and even back into last spring before we were forced to pause," Brewer said. "She's a really solid player who is starting to make a name for herself on the college and amateur scenes. I'm excited for her and at the same time, it's good for our entire team because they know they can compete with her. Céleste shooting 69 today and Jo shooting even shows that everyone in our lineup is capable of posting low numbers."

Dao began her day at No. 11 and opened her loop with a bogey. She regained that stroke and moved into red numbers with birdies at No. 14 and No. 15 but turned at even following a bogey at No. 18. After a bogey at No. 5, Dao posted birdies at No. 7 and No. 8 followed by an eagle at No. 9 to get to 3-under.

Bae's third-straight par-or-better effort featured a steady day with 13 pars. She opened the day with a birdie at No. 9 but immediately gave that back with a bogey at No. 10 and another at No. 13. Bae birdied No. 14 and then eagled No. 2 before wrapping up her round with six-straight pars.

Hung struggled early, bogeying No. 10 and double-bogeying No. 13 for move to 3-over through four holes. She went birdie-bogey-birdie at Nos. 14-16 and turned at 2-over. Birdies at No. 2 and No. 8 on the front brought Hung back to even.

South Carolina captured the team and individual titles. The Gamecocks finished at 12-under 852, five shots ahead of LSU. Pauline Roussin-Bouchard earned medalist honors by shooting 14-under.

Georgia will return to action in two Fridays when the Bulldogs host the 48th Annual Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic on Nov. 6-8 at the UGA Golf Course. Originally scheduled for March, the 2020 edition of the tournament was cancelled on March 12 with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. The field for the fall event will feature 11 of 14 SEC schools and a second team comprised of Georgia golfers. The 49th annual LMCC is scheduled for next spring.

"We're excited to host the final event of the fall," Brewer said. "We played in two SEC previews away from home and now we have a chance to defend our home turf. You don't want to put a target on your back, but we feel like we have a chance to wrap up the fall with a really good showing at home. With all the bad and crazy things that have happened in 2020, it would be a great note to end our year with a good performance at home."
