ATHENS, Ga. – An already impressive 2020 signing class for University of Georgia swimming and diving was bolstered Wednesday morning with the signing of Wesley Ng, as announced by Tom Cousins Head Coach Jack Bauerle. He becomes the eighth member of Georgia's formidable 2020 signing class, which now includes seven swimmers and one diver.

"I am so excited to announce that I will be continuing my academic and athletic career at the University of Georgia," said Ng. "Huge thanks to my family, coaches and friends for supporting me throughout my journey."

"We're excited about Wesley," said Bauerle. "He's talented in a lot of events and brings a lot of speed to our program. We feel he has a great future and we're looking forward to working with him here, helping him find success not just here at Georgia, but for Hong Kong as well. He adds to an impressive class that is exciting for this program."

Ng, a native of Tai Wai, Hong Kong, currently swims for the Diocesan Boys' School under coach Kenny Yip and for the Tai Po Swimming Club under coach Sherry Hiu Wai Tsai, amassing an impressive resume during his junior career. Ng holds two national records, including a short-course meter time of 1:58.67 in the 200 backstroke, which broke his previous record mark of 1:59.14, as well as the long course 50 butterfly record time of 23.97.

Additionally, Ng holds 15-17 age group national records in five different strokes (50 free, 50 back, 100 free, 100 back and 200 back) and is ranked first nationally in four strokes (50 fly, 50 back, 100 back and 200 back).

In 2019, Ng participated in the FINA World Championships in Gwangju, South Korea, followed by a 14th-place finish in the 50 fly at the FINA World Junior Championships in Budapest in August. He also won eight medals (four gold, three silver, one bronze) at the Asian Age Group Championships, setting three new meet records in the process. In 2018, he earned a silver and bronze medal at the ISF Gymnasiade Summer Games in Morocco.

For his achievements this past year, Ng was named the Outstanding Men's Swimmer of the Year by Hong Kong Amateur Swimming, as well as the Most Improved Swimmer of the Year by the Hong Kong Swimming Coaches Association. He was also named the 2019 Grantham Outstanding Student-Athlete and Outstanding Swimming Athlete by the Hong Kong Schools Sports Federation.
