NEW ORLEANS, La. --- Former Georgia running back and 1982 Heisman Trophy winner Herschel Walker has been named the No. 2 all-time college football player, according to an ESPN announcement at halftime of the College Football Playoff (CFP) National Championship Game on Monday night.
Â
The listing of college football's top 25 players is a continuation of ESPN and the CFP honoring the 150th anniversary of the sport throughout the season.
Â
Walker, a Wrightsville, Ga., native finished his career with 11 NCAA records, 16 Southeastern Conference records and 41 Bulldog records during his career from 1980-82. The three-time All-American registered 5,259 yards rushing and 52 touchdowns and had his jersey retired by UGA in 1985.
Â
One of the Bulldogs' most versatile players in history, Champ Bailey, was named No. 149 on ESPN's list of college football's top 150 players all-time earlier this week. Bailey, a native of Folkston, Ga., was a 1998 All-American after playing more than 1,000 snaps, including more than 100 in seven games. The 1998 Bronko Nagurski Trophy Award winner was a threat for the Bulldogs at wide receiver, cornerback and kick returner, among other spots.
