Evans Garners SEC Freshman of the Week
September 23, 2019 | Volleyball
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – University of Georgia volleyball student-athlete Kacie Evans has been named the Freshman of the Week by the Southeastern Conference, the league announced Monday.
"Kacie played about as a complete a game as you could ask of any outside hitter, let alone a freshman," said head coach Tom Black. "Her future is extremely bright and she is driven every day to get better. We're very happy for her to earn this well-deserved recognition."
The outside hitter from Wadsworth, Ohio tallied a season-best 16 kills in both matches at home last week, averaging 4.00 kills a set. She hit .467 against NC State Thursday evening, committing only two attack errors. She followed it up on Friday hitting .306 against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets along with recording a season-high four aces at the service line. She also averaged 2.00 digs per set over the two matches.
Through 11 matches in her freshman campaign, Evans is averaging 2.81 kills per set and hitting .233 through 36 sets played. Her 12 aces leads the team and her 2.00 digs/set ranks third for Georgia.
This is the first-ever SEC Freshman of the Week honor for Evans.
Georgia is currently on a five-match winning streak heading into SEC play this weekend. The Bulldogs concluded non-conference play with an 8-3 record. The Bulldogs take on South Carolina in Columbia on Friday then travel to Gainesville for a showdown with #11 Florida Sunday.
