New Red Lighting Adds To Sanford Experience

September 23, 2019 | Football

Fans at Sanford Stadium have become used to a new tradition at the start of the fourth quarter.  The Georgia Redcoat Band begins playing Krypton and fans raise their arms up and down with their cell phone lights on.  It was a dramatic effect when it started a few years ago.

The Georgia Bulldogs upped the ante on Saturday as the Dawgs held a slim 13-10 lead over Notre Dame heading into the final frame.  A new LED lighting system installed this summer allowed Georgia's administrators to not only turn off the main lighting system but to also turn it on and off with red lights.  In addition to the video scoreboard and LED signage throughout the stadium, the effect of red lights throughout the stadium was dramatic and served to excite the record 93,246 crowd.

Then the fun really began.  Sanford Stadium became a rock concert of swirling and strobing lights energizing the fans into a fury as the team went on to a 23-17 nationally televised win.  As if going to Sanford Stadium to watch the No. 3 Bulldogs wasn't fun enough already, night games will now be even more exciting in the future.

Only a few tickets remain for October 12th's game against South Carolina.  Game time hasn't been announced yet.  Let's hope it's a night game.

Watch the fun with these highlights.
