September 17, 2019 | Cross Country

ATHENS, Ga. --- Georgia's Nicholas Yanek has earned his second consecutive weekly Southeastern Conference honor following the teams' showing at the Commodore Classic in Nashville, Tenn., over the weekend, according to a league announcement on Tuesday.

Redshirt freshman Nicholas Yanek received Men's Freshman of the Week honors for the second time in his career.

This marks the third SEC weekly cross honor for Georgia this season.  Junior Samantha Drop (Women's Runner of the Week) and Yanek were both recognized by the SEC following the season-opening Bulldog Invitational in Athens that was held on Aug. 31.

Yanek, a native of Bettendorf, Iowa, ran his second cross race as a Bulldog and was the team's top finisher for the second consecutive competition at the 8k Commodore Classic.  He finished in 24:56.4 and was the third overall freshman to finish and first from the SEC. Yanek's finish helped give the Bulldogs ninth overall out of 15 teams.
