Bulldogs Remain Undefeated Against Georgia State

September 15, 2019 | Soccer

ATLANTA ---  The University of Georgia soccer team remains undefeated against Georgia State after beating the Panthers, 2-0, at the GSU Soccer Complex on Sunday evening.

With the win, Georgia improves to 15-0-2 against the Panthers all-time.

"It's nice to go on the road and get a win," Georgia head coach Billy Lesesne said. "Georgia State is an organized team, difficult to break down. I thought we did a nice job, especially in the second half of sharing the ball, moving it, playing in combination. We had a couple really nice finishes and actually the goalkeeper did a really nice job as well. For us, it's getting closer and closer to conference play now and it's good to go in with a win on the road since we'll be heading over to South Carolina to start conference play on the road. I'm excited about the result we got today. It was a great team effort."

Georgia took the lead with four minutes left in the first half after junior Ashley Andersen drew the goalkeeper out the net and served the ball to freshman Tori Wheeler for the score.

Much like in Friday's no contest against Georgia Southern, junior Mollie Belisle immediately made an impact after taking the field to start the second half. She scored off an assist from sophomore Weldon Kolker to give Georgia the 2-0 lead at the 50-minute mark.

The Bulldogs controlled the field throughout the full 90 minutes of play, only allowing two shots by the Panthers, one of which came in the final two minutes.

Thirteen Bulldogs contributed 19 total shots with eight being on frame.

The Bulldogs will open SEC play on the road at South Carolina on Friday, September 20 at 7 p.m. Georgia will celebrate the team's seniors on Senior Day at the Turner Soccer Complex in the final non conference game of the season against Furman on Sunday, September 22.  That match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. and admission is free.
