Georgia Completes Action in Alabama
September 15, 2019 | Men's Tennis
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Georgia men's tennis sophomore Britton Johnston and senior Alex Phillips teamed together for a doubles win to highlight the final day at the 2019 Four in the Fall Tournament.
Johnston and Phillips, who played together for just the third time in their careers, ousted the Ole Miss tandem of Jan Hain and Simon Junk 8-7 (5) in a consolation doubles match.
In singles, freshman Erik Grevelius saw his impressive run come to an end against Tennessee's Martim Prata in the main draw consolation finals. On Friday he forced Ole Miss' No. 1 singles player Tim Sandkaulen to three sets in a loss, and then picked up his first collegiate win with a 6-2, 6-4 victory against Tulane's Danne Esses. He followed with a victory against UAB's Roman Postolka on Saturday.
Fellow Bulldogs Phillips and Johnston each lost in consolation singles matches to bring this weekend's event to a close.
Next up, members of the Georgia men's tennis team will travel to San Francisco for the Battle in the Bay Tournament on Sept. 20-22.
