ATHENS, Ga. — An NCAA Regional at the UGA Golf Course and a pair of inaugural events headline the Georgia women's golf team's 2019-20 schedule, which was announced by head coach Josh Brewer on Thursday.

"It was a little different building this schedule because we already know where we're headed for Regionals since we're hosting," Brewer said. "We don't have to worry about traveling and seeing other parts of the country other than Arizona, where the national championships will be in the desert."

"I wanted to play what I think is one of the five or 10 best schedules in the country and give our players a chance to build their All-American status and world amateur status, especially with Augusta National basing a lot of their invitations on how highly you're ranked," Brewer added. "I hope this helps us get a few extra Bulldogs in that event next April."

In addition to hosting the 48th annual Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic on March 20-22, Georgia also will compete in an NCAA Regional on May 11-13 at the UGA Golf Course.

The Bulldogs are in the field for in the first editions of the Molly in Portland, Ore., on Sept. 30-Oct. 1, and the White Sands Invitational on Oct. 28-30 in Nassau, Bahamas.

"The Molly fit our schedule perfectly," Brewer said. "It's a brand new tournament Oregon State and Nike are hosting. It's basically like we're sneaking in on a Pac 12 Championship. They've proven they're the best in the country so it will be good to see where we stand early in the season.

"Stacy Lewis and her management company and the Golf Channel are hosting a brand new event in the Bahamas," Brewer continued. "We said yes before they said much else. It's a great way to end our fall season, and the individual winner will get an exemption into an LPGA event. We're super excited about where the schedule is and the level of competition we'll see."

Georgia's fall schedule includes trips to the Minnesota Invitational on Sept. 9-10 and the Stanford Intercollegiate on Oct. 11-13.

The Bulldogs' spring slate begins at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic on Feb. 9-11 before competing in The Gold Rush in Seal Beach, Calif., on Feb. 24-25 and the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate in Hilton Head, S.C., on March 6-8.

The 2020 edition of the Liz Murphey will feature a 54-hole stroke play format. For much of the past several years the tournament has been contested with a combination of stroke play qualifying and match play. The field also will feature 11 of 14 SEC teams.

"We are going back to stroke play since we're hosting Regionals next spring and I want our team to play as many competitive rounds as it can on our golf course," Brewer said. "We're excited even more SEC teams than usual will be in the field. At our league meetings last spring, Commissioner (Greg) Sankey expressed an interest in SEC schools playing against each other. We invited everyone to the Liz. We had a few that did not accept, but I'm excited about those who will be here."

Georgia wraps up its regular season with a trip to the PING/ASU Invitational in Phoenix on March 27-29.

The SEC Championships will be held April 15-19 at Greystone Golf and Country Club outside Birmingham.

The Bulldogs will be among 18 teams competing in the Athens Regional on May 11-13. Following 54 holes of stroke play, the top-six teams and the top-three individual finishers who aren't on qualifying teams will advance to the NCAA Championships on May 22-27 at Grayhawk Golf Course in Scottsdale, Ariz. This will be the third NCAA Regional in Athens since 2008. The UGA layout also has hosted the national championships five times since 1971.

"I think it speaks volumes about our golf course and facilities," Brewer said. "People at the University of Georgia and Athens put on such a great show. Hosting NCAA events also says what women's golf means to the University of Georgia, and it's a way to honor (former coaches) Beans (Kelly) and Liz (Murphey) and all the great golfers who are Bulldogs. You could look at it both ways. You could say it adds a bit of pressure, but I think there's a lot of home course knowledge. I think we have a team that is going to thrive under the opportunity to play at home and enjoy the stage of competing in the postseason in front of their family and friends."

Georgia's 2019-20 roster features nine golfers - four returnees and five newcomers. Seniors Gabriela Coello and Kelsey Kurnett are joined by sophomores Jenny Bae and Jo Hua Hung, who all earned SEC All-Freshman honors last spring. The quintet of newcomers includes freshmen Caroline Craig, Celeste Dao and Caterina Don and junior college transfers Alison Crenshaw and Zoe Walker.

"We're excited to have depth," Brewer said. "It's going to be fun watching the competition. The energy around the program is good. This team has a 'buzz' around it. I don't know where we'll be in the preseason but we have a pretty good idea of where we want to be in the postseason."
