ITA Awards for Bulldogs and NCAA Individuals Underway

ORLANDO, Fla. – Amidst the weekend the ITA regional awards were released with Jeff Wallace earning Southeast Regional Coach of the Year and Meg Kowalski obtaining Southeast Regional Rookie of the Year.
The NCAA Singles Championships, a field of 64 players, started Monday at the USTA National Campus. Sophomore Katarina Jokic is participating in both the singles and doubles draw for the second year in a row. In singles, the No. 2-seeded Jokic plays Katarina Kozarov of Furman, who is ranked No. 67 by ITA singles, at 4 p.m. ET.
Junior Marta Gonzalez will participate in her first NCAA Individuals tournament as she picked up a 9-16 seeding. The No. 19-ranked Bulldog also steps onto the court at 4 p.m. and will play No. 51-ranked Salma Ewing of Southern California.
The NCAA Doubles Championships start Tuesday with Jokic and freshman Lourdes Carle in the 32-team field. The No. 28-ranked duo will face a Washington team of Stacey Fung and Nika Zupancic, who are ranked No. 23. Times will be released later tonight.
The regional coach of the year award marks Wallace's fifth honor in his career. Wallace earned the same accolade in 1990, 1994, 2000, and 2014. Kowalski paired her Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Year award with the Regional Rookie of the Year honor. This marks the third year in a row that a Bulldog have earned both those awards. Elena Christofi did so in 2017, while Jokic swept the awards last season.
