GymDogs Conclude Season at National Championship Semifinal

FORT WORTH, Texas --- The University of Georgia gymnastics team concluded its season in the semifinals of the NCAA National Championship with a score of 196.4625 on Friday Night at the Fort Worth Convention Center Arena.

Senior Sydney Snead and junior Sabrina Vega were honored for finishing in the top eight on vault with scores of 9.9000.

"We needed a strong start to continue the momentum, that's been the key for us this season," Georgia head coach Courtney Kupets Carter said. "It was a pretty good bars rotation, but they got tight on balance beam. We wanted to restart on floor and really get going because those are strong events. They are young. They have the will and they want it so bad. It's about getting them to understand in that moment that they can just go do it. Let it go, be free. That didn't happen tonight. It was a disappointment. They had more in them, but it's nothing we can't take and push harder for next year."

The GymDogs began competition on bars, posting a 49.2750. Freshman Megan Roberts started the event with a 9.850, followed by a 9.7625 from fellow freshman Rachael Lukacs. Senior Sydney Snead led Georgia for the event with a 9.9000. Junior Rachel Dickson contributed a 9.8875.

Georgia scored a 48.8625 on beam in the second rotation. Vega led the charge with a 9.8375, followed by a 9.8125 from Dickson. Snead, Mikayla Magee, and Rachel Baumann contributed scores to the team total as well.

Georgia refocused on floor, earning a 49.0875. Dickson scored a 9.8625, followed by a 9.850 from Lukacs. In the anchor position, Vega posted a 9.8125. Snead contributed a score of 9.7625 and Sami Davis notched a 9.7875 to lead off the event.

Georgia finished strong on vault with a 49.2375. In her final routine in the Red and Black, Snead earned a 9.900 for her yurchenko one and a half. Vega matched that score, and Lukacs followed with a 9.8500. Dickson and Ward closed out the season with scores of 9.8125 and 9.7750, respectively.

Oklahoma (197.8500) and Denver (197.0375), along with UCLA (197.5125) and LSU (197.6750) advanced to the Four on the Floor, taking place on Saturday, April 20 at 7 p.m. ET.
