Georgia Places First at Elevate the Stage with a 197.350

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- The eighth-ranked University of Georgia gymnastics team earned a first place finish at Elevate the Stage with a 197.350 on Friday night at Legacy Arena. The GymDogs placed ahead of No. 10 Minnesota (197.025), No. 20 Arkansas (197.000), and Michigan State (195.025).Â

Senior Sydney Snead took home event titles on vault, beam, and in the all-around.Â

"It was a great night tonight," Georgia head coach Courtney Kupets Carter said. "Starting on balance beam was great for us. We are very strong on beam and starting there is something we may see in post season so it was a good preparation. Sydney Snead got the momentum going it was great for everyone to fall into line after that. Floor was outstanding. We have been building and building and the work that they've been putting in in the gym really showed."

Snead started the GymDogs off on beam with a 9.900, followed by a 9.875 from Rachel Dickson and Marissa Oakley. Rachel Baumann scored a 9.775 and Sabrina Vega finished the event with another 9.900 for Georgia. The GymDogs scored a 49.325 team total on beam.Â

Georgia posted a season-high 49.575 on floor after Dickson got a 10 from one of the judges, for a 9.950 and Vega matched that score. Rachael Lukacs dazzled the judges with a 9.925 and Snead contributed a 9.900. Rachel Baumann posted a 9.850.

Georgia held a sizeable lead after two rotations with a 98.900.Â

The GymDogs posted a 49.175 on vault. Snead matched her career-high with a 9.950 in the anchor position after one judge gave her a 10. Before her Lukacs and Dickson scored a 9.825 and 9.850, respectively. Vega contributed a 9.750 and Abbey Ward scored a 9.800.Â

Georgia secured the win with a 49.275 on bars. Alexa Al-Hameed led the GymDogs with a 9.900. Marissa Oakley, Megan Roberts, and Snead each contributed scores of 9.850, followed by a 9.825 from Lukacs.Â

Georgia returns home to Stegeman Coliseum to conclude regular season competition on Saturday, March 16 against Utah at 4 p.m. The GymDogs will honor its one senior Sydney Snead prior to the meet. To date, Snead has competed in the all-around 29 times and is already a four-time All-American, in addition to scoring a Perfect 10 on floor last season against Florida.Â
