Phillips Third, Bulldogs Fifth In General Hackler Championship

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. --- The 12th-ranked Georgia men's golf team finished fifth on Tuesday in the General Hackler Championship.

On the Dunes Golf & Beach Club's par-72, 7,233-yard layout on Tuesday, Georgia was the only team under par as it closed with a 5-under 283 for a total of 10-under 854. North Florida claimed team honors at 21-under 843, while Wake Forest came in second at 16-under 848, Liberty was third at 15-under 849, and Louisville finished fourth at 11-under 853.

Freshman Trent Phillips paced the Bulldogs in the final round with a 6-under 66. Junior Spencer Ralston and sophomore Davis Thompson each signed for an even-par 72, while junior Trevor Phillips and freshman Will Kahlstorf both had a 1-over 73.

Trent Phillips finished third at 9-under 207, three strokes shy of Wake Forest's Cameron Young. Phillips now has finished second once and third three times in his rookie season. He also has recorded 13 of his 17 collegiate rounds in the 60s and leads the SEC with a scoring average of 68.59.

Thompson came in 13th at 3-under 213 and Ralston landed in 17th at 2-under 214. Trevor Phillips finished at 4-over 220, followed by Kahlstorf at 7-over 223.

Competing as an individual, junior Will Chandler wound up at 8-over 224, including a 6-over 78 closing round.

The Bulldogs will compete in the Linger Longer Invitational at The Landing Golf Course (par 72, 6,991 yards) in Greensboro, Ga., Friday through Sunday.
