Camden Murphy Sets New School Record in 100 Butterfly

ATHENS, Ga. ---Â Camden Murphy set the school record in the men's 100 butterfly and he and Courtney Harnish had third-place finishes to highlight Georgia's showing in the Southeastern Conference Championships on Thursday at Gabrielsen Natatorium.

After three days of competition, the Lady Bulldogs stand fourth with 471.5 points. They trail Texas A&M (618.5), Florida (561.5), and Tennessee (557.5). The Bulldogs landed in sixth with 436 points. Leading for the men is Florida (636), Missouri (625), and Texas A&M (492).

"All I know is that we got a lot of good points tonight," said Jack Bauerle, Georgia's Tom Cousins Swimming and Diving Head Coach. "Our kids came into today extremely focused and on a mission. They set their minds to what they wanted to do and really went after it. They were really something tonight."

Murphy eclipsed his own school record of 45.47 set in December 2018, touching the wall at 45.26. That time put him in third place overall. Billy Rothery swam to a 16th-place finish with a time of 47.08. Blake Atmore finished in a new career-best time of 47.19, good for 22nd place.Â

The Bulldogs comprised half of the 400 individual medley championship final with James Guest leading the way as he placed fourth with a time of 3:43.61. He was followed by Clayton Forde in fifth, stopping the clock in 3:43.90. Andrew Abruzzo took seventh, touching the pad in 3:47.43. Finishing out the top-eight was Aidan Burns recording a time of 3:49.49. Tal Davis finished 15th with a time of 3:46.57. Greg Reed came in at 21st with a career-best time of 3:48.91.

Walker Higgins was the lone Bulldog in the men's 200 freestyle competition. He touched the wall, 11th overall, with a time of 1:35.14.

Harnish highlighted the women's 200 freestyle competition with her third-place finish in the event. Harnish's time of 1:43.53, a career-best time for her, puts her at No. 7 on Georgia's all-time list. Jordan Stout swam her way to an 11th-place finish with a time of 1:45.67 with Meryn McCann at 1:45.76, good for 18th place.

Veronica Burchill came in fourth in the women's 100 butterfly, stopping the clock in 51.70. Olivia Carter finished sixth with a career-best time of 52.02, moving her to No. 6 on Georgia's all-time list. Dakota Luther placed 12th with a time of 52.67.

In the women's 400 individual medley, Portia Brown placed 14th with a time of 4:12.42. Sammie Burchill followed at 17th, setting a career-best time of 4:10.40.

The SECs will resume on Friday with the 200 butterfly, the 100 backstroke, the 100 breaststroke, the 400 medley relay, and women's platform diving. Prelims begin at 10 a.m., with finals starting at 6 p.m.
