Bulldogs Holding Strong In Third In Puerto Rico

RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico --- The 14th-ranked Georgia men's golf team slipped one spot to third place on Monday in the 27th annual Puerto Rico Classic.

In the second round on the par-72, 6,902-yard Rio Mar Beach and Spa Resort's River Course, the Bulldogs fired a 2-under 286. That gives Georgia a tournament total of 8-under 568 — just three shy of Georgia Tech (565) and two in back of NC State (566).

Freshman Trent Phillips led Georgia on Monday with a 3-under 69, with three of his six birdies coming on his closing six holes. Sophomore Davis Thompson followed with a 1-under 71, while junior Trevor Phillips signed for an even-par 72, and junior Spencer Ralston posted a 2-over 74. Freshman Will Kahlstorf had the Bulldogs' non-counting score of 9-over 81.

Trent Phillips stands fifth individually at 4-under 140, one shot back of the four-way tie at the top of the leaderboard. Trevor Phillips is 12th at 3-under 141. Ralston landed at 1-over 145, followed by Thompson at 2-over 146, and Kalhstorf at 8-over 152.

Junior Will Chandler carded a 7-over 78 to move to 5-over 147 and into fourth place in the Puerto Rico Individual Classic on Rio Mar's Ocean Course (par 71, 6,782 yards). Chandler is nine strokes shy of Thomas Johnson of Oklahoma.
