LEXINGTON, Ky. – The American Volleyball Coaches Association announced its All-Region awards Tuesday. University of Georgia student-athlete Kacie Evans was honored as the Southeast Region Freshman of the Year while senior Meghan Donovan earned Southeast All-Region Team.
Evans becomes the first Georgia Bulldog to be named Region Freshman of the Year since Julia Petruschke in 2002.
Donovan was an All-Region honorable mention as a sophomore in 2017.
"Once again, these awards are well deserved for both of these young women," said head coach Tom Black. "They are both students of their craft and I enjoyed watching them grow every day this season with our team."
The pair helped guide Georgia to its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2013. Georgia concluded the season with a 20-10 mark while finishing fifth in the Southeastern Conference.
Evans concluded her rookie season with a team-best 3.63 kills per set with 2.17 digs per set. She recorded eight double-doubles on the season and eclipsed the 20-kill mark five times. She led the team in kills in 20 matches. The Wadsworth, Ohio native was named the SEC Freshman of the Week five times in 2019, concluding with SEC Freshman of the Year and All-SEC honors. Her 3.63 kills per set and 4.12 points per set each rank ninth in the league. In conference-only matches, she finished fifth with 4.00 kills per set and seventh with 4.45 points per set.
Donovan brought her Georgia career to a close recording 11.35 assists per set, a mark good enough for third in the SEC. She finished with a team-best 13 double-doubles and 47 in her career. The setter from St. Louis finished second on the team with a digs per set average of 2.69 with 49 total blocks. She became a member of Georgia's 1,000-Dig Club and a Double Grand Club member. Donovan finished third all-time, first in the modern rally scoring era, with 4,918 career assists.
