November 14, 2019 | Gymnastics

ATHENS, Ga. --- University of Georgia gymnastics head coach Courtney Kupets Carter has announced the addition of three GymDogs in the 2020 signing class.

The signees include: Nhyla Bryant of Raleigh, North Carolina, Katie Finnegan of Kings Park, New York, and Victoria Nguyen of Houston, Texas.

"Each year I get more excited about what our future holds and this signing class is going to continue the rise of Georgia Gymnastics," Kupets Carter said. "All three gymnasts will be tremendous assets to our program and I can't wait for them to wow the crowd in Stegeman Coliseum."

Nhyla Bryant signs to become a GymDog after training at Raleigh School of Gymnastics.  She placed ninth at the 2019 Junior Olympic Nationals.  She earned Top 5 finishes in the all-around, vault, bars, and floor at the 2019 Level 10 N.C. State before repeating those placings at Regionals.  She was a 2018 Level 10 N.C. State Qualifier and has numerous other Top 10 finishes throughout her career.

"The University of Georgia left a lasting impression (academically & athletically) when I visited for my first gymnastics camp in 2015," Bryant said. "Right away I knew that this was the school I wanted to attend. I felt like I belonged and I just fell in love with the campus. All of the coaching staff is super supportive and nice, as well as the gymnasts on the team. I am so blessed I get to live my dream of becoming a GymDog."

Katie Finnegan signs with Georgia after training at APEX Athletics.  She is a five-time New York State Champion and two-time Region 6 Champion.  Finnegan is an Eastern Champion who also placed Top 7 or better at Nationals two years in a row while finishing third on bars at nationals in 2018.

"I chose Georgia because the team atmosphere between the girls and coaches felt like home," Finnegan said. "Competing in front of thousands of people in the most competitive conference has always been a dream of mine."

Victoria Nguyen signs with Georgia after training at Everest Gymnastics in North Carolina. She represented Team USA in the 2017 London World Cup where she finished second in the all-around.  At the 2017 Jesolo Trophy the team finished first as she earned fifth on beam and seventh in the all-around (senior division).  In 2019 she competed at the American Classic in Salt Lake City on beam and vault, finishing sixth on vault.

"I chose Georgia because it feels like home away from home," Nguyen said. "After visiting campus and meeting the coaches, I know it's a place where I can stay true to my values. It's a perfect fit for me."
