Four Georgia Swimming & Diving athletes earned SEC weekly honors.

Bulldogs Earn Four SEC Honors

ATHENS, Ga. – Following a season-opening sweep of Alabama, University of Georgia swimming and diving received four Southeastern Conference weekly honors, as announced by the league office in Birmingham Tuesday afternoon.
 
Juniors Courtney Harnish and Camden Murphy were named SEC Women's and Men's Swimmers of the Week respectively, while freshmen Zoie Hartman and Ian Grum swept the SEC Freshman of the Week honors.
 
For Harnish, this is her sixth SEC weekly award, having previously been named Swimmer of the Week on Oct. 16, 2018 and Jan. 15, 2019, as well as Freshman of the Week on Oct. 10, 2017, Oct. 24, 2017 and Dec. 5, 2017. For Murphy, this is his fourth SEC weekly award, having previously been named Swimmer of the Week on Oct. 6, 2018 and Freshman of the Week on Oct. 24, 2017 and Dec. 5, 2017.
 
Harnish impressively led the Lady Bulldogs last Friday against Alabama, tallying 19.5 points, the most of any Georgia swimmer. Harnish placed in the top two in each of her four events, including a pair of victories in the 200 freestyle (1:47.53) and 500 freestyle (4:47.04). She also anchored the Lady Bulldogs in the 400 freestyle relay and swam the 1,000 freestyle, placing second in both events and helping Georgia to a 163.5-136.5 victory.
 
Murphy's strong performance propelled Georgia to an 157-143 victory over Alabama with eighteen individual points, tied for the most of any male swimmer. Murphy swept the butterfly swims with wins in the 100 (47.88) and 200 (1:46.69). He also contributed in the 200 medley relay with a split time of 21.20 and 400 freestyle relay with a split of 45.20.
 
Hartman made an outstanding debut for the Lady Bulldogs, showcasing her highly-touted ability by racking up 18 points. In the first event of the day, Hartman's 27.60 breast split helped Georgia take first in the 200 medley relay. She then posted B-cut times in victory in the 100 breaststroke (1:01.09) and 200 breaststroke (2:13.01). She also swam the third leg of the 400 freestyle relay, notching a split of 49.96. Hartman's 18 points was the most of any Georgia freshman and tied for second on the entire team.
 
Grum also turned in an exciting debut for the Bulldogs, finishing the day with 17 points as he earned one win and three second-place finishes. In the 200 backstroke, Grum took first with a time of 145.88, while also contributing with a second-place finish in the 200 backstroke with a time of 49.13. In addition to his individual efforts, he swam the opening backstroke leg in the 200 medley relay, posting a time of 22.69, and sealed another runner-up finish in the 400 IM with a split of 25.63 in the final freestyle 50 yards.
 
In other awards, Missouri's Leonardo Garcia Varela was named Men's Diver of the Week, while Ashley McCool of Florida took Women's Diver of the Week.
 
The Bulldogs will return to the water in three weeks as they travel north for back-to-back duals against North Carolina (Friday, Oct. 25 at 3 p.m.) and Duke (Saturday, Oct. 26 at 11 a.m.).
