Donovan, Evans Earn SEC Weekly Honors

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – University of Georgia volleyball student-athletes Meghan Donovan and Kacie Evans have earned SEC Setter and Freshman of the Week honors, respectively, the Southeastern Conference announced Monday.
"These are well deserved honors by Kacie and Meghan," said head coach Tom Black. "Kacie is such a competitive player who brings an all-around game very few outsides have. Meg is our leader, both of the offense as well as our team and she just leads us with her will and poise. We're excited for them both to get this recognition and we know there's plenty of work ahead."
This is Evans' second weekly honor this season and Donovan's first of the season and eighth of her career. The pair earn recognition from the conference after the Bulldogs went 2-0 at Stegeman Coliseum over the weekend including a four-set win over Tennessee on Friday and a sweep of Alabama Sunday.
Donovan, a native of St. Louis, Missouri, dished out 13.57 assists per set on the weekend as the Bulldogs hit .263 over seven sets. Her 47 assists against Alabama tied a rally scoring record at Georgia for assists in three sets. Donovan also picked up 15 digs on Sunday for her sixth double-double of the season and 40thof her career. This season Donovan's 11.35 assists per set ranks second in the league.
Evans, who hails from Wadsworth, Ohio, recorded the first double-doubles of her career over the weekend. She began with a season/career-high 19 kill and a .359 hitting clip against Tennessee on Friday with 10 digs. She followed it up with 15 kills and a season-best 11 digs against the Crimson Tide on Sunday. Over two matches, she averaged 4.86 kills/set and 3.00 digs/set.
The Bulldogs (11-4, 3-1 SEC) are back in action this weekend beginning Friday at #15 Kentucky. Georgia returns to Stegeman Coliseum Sunday at 2 p.m. to host LSU.
