Henning Cruises to Round of 16 at ITA All-America Championships
October 10, 2019 | Men's Tennis
TULSA, Okla. — University of Georgia men's tennis sophomore Philip Henning recorded his fifth-straight win on Thursday to advance to the ITA All-America Championships Round of 16.
Henning took down No 11-ranked and seventh-seeded John McNally from Ohio State, 6-3, 6-1, to improve to 8-1 in singles contest this fall. The South Africa native has lost just three sets in nine total matches played during the autumn season.
"Phil was flawless today," associate head coach Jamie Hunt said. "He played very disciplined and executed at a very high level. His opponent had no answers for him."
The 81st-ranked Henning will square off with No. 45 Valentin Vacherot of Texas A&M in the Round of 16 on Friday. Match time for that contest will be announced later Thursday evening.
