January 18, 2019 | Men's Tennis
ATHENS, Ga. — The University of Georgia men's tennis team will make the short drive over to Atlanta for this weekend's MLK Invitational on the Georgia Tech campus.
Georgia will join teams from Tech, Illinois and Columbia at this weekend's three-day event that will run from Saturday until Monday at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex. This year's field features some of the best players in the nation, with three of the four teams participating ranked in the ITA top-25 — Georgia (No. 12), Columbia (No. 15) and Illinois (No. 16).
The Bulldogs begin play against players from Columbia at 9 a.m. on Saturday. The Lions were 19-5 last season and made the NCAA Round of 16, before falling to No. 1 Wake Forest.
On Sunday, Georgia players will go against players from Illinois at 9 a.m. The Illini are coming off an impressive season after compiling a 24-8 record with an appearance in the NCAA quarterfinals.
Georgia wraps up play against Georgia Tech on Monday at 2 p.m. That contest will serve as a preview of the regular season matchup on Feb. 3 in Athens.
During this week's MLK Invite, no team scores will be recorded, but singles and doubles champions will be crowned based on the round robin results.
