Women’s Cross Country, Men’s Cross Country Teams Earn Faculty Athletics Representatives Awards

ATHENS, Ga. --- University of Georgia men's and women's cross country teams have been named recipients of the Faculty Athletics Representatives Award for earning the highest team grade point averages (GPA) during the 2017-18 academic year.
This is the first time the women's cross country team has received the award. For the men's distance-running squad, this marks the sixth time in the past eight years it has won the prestigious honor.
The women's cross country team compiled a 3.45 GPA over the Fall 2017 and Spring 2018 semesters. All female sports teams compiled a GPA of 3.00 or higher for the 2017-18 academic school year with tennis (3.42), track (3.39), soccer (3.39) and equestrian (3.36) rounding out the top five.
The men's cross country team had a combined 3.32 GPA during the same two-semester period. Tennis (3.16), golf (3.13), track (3.13) and swimming (3.06) rounded out the top five for the male teams.
A total of 31 UGA student-athletes achieved a GPA of 4.0 during the Fall 2017 semester, while 35 student-athletes earned a 4.0 during the Spring 2018 semester. Also during the fall semester, 141 student-athletes compiled a GPA between 3.5-3.99, while 137 achieved the same mark during the spring semester.
