Bulldogs Improve To Second In The Carmel Cup

ATHENS, Ga. --- Powered by an 8-under 64 from freshman Trent Phillips and a 6-under 66 from sophomore John Hilliard Catanzaro, the Georgia men's golf team improved to second place in The Carmel Cup at Pebble Beach Golf Links on Saturday.

On the par-72 layout covering 6,828 yards, the Bulldogs had each player under par as they recorded a 21-under 339. For the tournament, Georgia sits at 29-under 691 -- 15 in back of Oklahoma (44-under 676).

Phillips, playing his first event as a Bulldog, had eight birdies and was bogey free as he moved to 12-under 132. He stands third individually, two shy of Oklahoma's Garett Reband (14-under 130). Catanzaro improved to 6-under 138 and he is 11th in the individual race.

Junior Trevor Phillips, Trent's brother, signed for a 3-under 69, while redshirt junior Tye Waller, junior Spencer Ralston and sophomore Davis Thompson all had 2-under 70s. Thompson sits 19th at 4-under 140, followed by Waller and Ralston at 3-under 141, and Trevor Phillips at 3-over 147.
