Boyan Guides Georgia to Tie Against Indiana

August 24, 2018 | Soccer

BOX SCORE

ATHENS, Ga. ---
On her 19th birthday, freshman Abby Boyan scored two equalizing goals to guide Georgia to a 2-2 double overtime tie against Indiana on Friday night at the Turner Soccer Complex.

"Indiana is a mature and physically strong team," head coach Billy Lesesne said. "To fall down a goal and fight to get back on two different occasions really shows character out of this team. I think we were pushing on to get one in overtime but not fortunate enough to finish on some pretty good looks throughout the game. This is good for us to grow. Indiana is a team like a lot of the teams in our league so this was good preparation for SEC play."

Indiana (1-0-1) was first on the board in the eighth minute of play and held that 1-0 lead until sophomore Reagan Glisson served the ball to Boyan, who headed it in for the score in the 34th minute.

After eleven shot attempts by the Bulldogs, Georgia (1-1-1) and Indiana stayed tied at one goal apiece heading into the locker room at halftime.

Again, it was the Hoosiers with the go-ahead score as Abby Allen scored on an assist from Annelie Leitner at the 79 minute mark.

Three minutes later, it was Boyan who answered again, scoring her second equalizer goal of the game and second goal of her collegiate career.

The Bulldogs had double the attempts as the Hoosiers, outshooting them 24-12 throughout the 110 minutes of play.  Boyan and Glisson each took six shots.

A standout on defense, freshman Cecily Stoute showed her speed and created opportunity to take two shots of her own and assisted Boyan's second goal. Both of Stoute's goals were on target and saved by the Indiana goalkeeper.

Georgia is back in action on Sunday, August 26 as the Bulldogs take on the 49ers of Charlotte at 2 p.m. at the Turner Soccer Complex.  The first 400 fans in attendance will receive a pair of sunglasses and samples from Smoothie King will be available. Admission is free.
