Bulldogs Honored for Academic Excellence
ATHENS, Ga.----The University of Georgia women's tennis team earned Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-Academic distinction while three Bulldogs earned ITA Scholar-Athlete honors, the organization announced recently.
The Bulldog squad, under the direction of head coach Jeff Wallace, registered a 3.38 grade point average. Additionally, Mariana Gould, Elena Christofi and Annette Goulak were recognized as ITA Scholar-Athletes after posting a GPA of at least 3.5.
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team GPA of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All varsity letter winners are factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year. Additionally, ITA Scholar-Athletes must have a GPA of 3.5 or above, be a varsity letter winner and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.
Gould, who graduated in May with a degree in health promotion, interned at St. Mary's Hospital this summer. She will begin graduate school at UGA in August to pursue a Master of Public Health degree.
Christofi, a rising junior who also earned the ITA All-American accolade for the Bulldogs in 2017, is an economics major with a 4.0 GPA.Â
Goulak, who made the Dean's List with a 3.97 GPA, is a rising sophomore and a biology major.Â
The Bulldogs ended last year ranked No. 7 nationally with a 18-7 record and advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Championships. The 2018-19 season begins with individual tournament play in September and will be Wallace's 34th year at the helm.Â
