McGarity's Minutes - June 18
June 18, 2018
Greetings from Athens and UGA:
When we last visited with you following the 2018 Spring meeting of the Athletic Board, we made note of the fact that we still have much to be accomplished this year athletically with Softball, Baseball and Men's and Women's Track and Field yet to compete and conclude competition in the NCAA Championships.
Highlighted by the Men's Track and Field team winning the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP and the Women's team finishing as NCAA runner-up by one point, Coach Petros Kyprianou's teams added an exclamation point to a very good year for the Bulldogs.

Men's Track & Field Wins National Championship
For those of us fortunate to be in attendance in Eugene, Oregon for the NCAA Track and Field Championships at historic Hayward Field, those national championship memories will last a lifetime. And to finish runner-up on the women's side for the second straight year ... while disappointing after the last race was run, in the big picture, there is a great sense of pride in the incredible season we enjoyed in outdoor and indoor track.

Women's Track & Field National Runner-up
Let's remember the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP our women's track and field team won during the 2018 NCAA Indoor Championships in February, and the 3rd place finish for our men. Two national championships, one runner-up and one 3rd place finish --- which is emblematic of the best track program in the country! Congrats to all!
An appearance at the Women's College World Series (WCWS) in Oklahoma City for Lu Harris-Champer's softball Bulldogs capped a remarkable run for our women. Navigating the NCAA Regionals undefeated, and two straight wins over Tennessee in the Super Regionals, the eventual NCAA champions knocked us out of the WCWS.

Softball Makes Trip To College World Series
For the first time in a decade, the baseball Bulldogs hosted a NCAA Regional. Scott Stricklin's Bulldogs experienced a fantastic season, finishing 2nd in the SEC with an 18-12 record, a national seed and serving as host for the Regional. Kudos to a red-hot Duke University team, that bowed out to Texas Tech in the Super Regional winner take all game. We look forward to Scott leading our baseball program into the future.

Finally, the annual measurement of athletic success in all sports for all programs in the country are reflected in the NACDA Learfield Cup Standings. The final results will not be official until the College World Series has ended; however, we know we will finish no lower than 9th place – and perhaps even higher once the final data is released.
While we enjoy reflecting back on the 2017-18 year, all of our efforts will be focused on the 2018-19 year! Let's continue to work together to make our athletic program the very best!
Thank you for your support and have a safe and enjoyable summer.
