Patterson Named to Community Service Team

April 17, 2018 | Women's Tennis

ATHENS, Ga. — University of Georgia women's tennis senior Laura Patterson was named to the 2018 Southeastern Conference Community Service Team, the league announced on Tuesday.

In addition to Patterson's involvement with Habitat for Humanity and the Salvation Army Angel Tree Initiative, the senior helped organize and head the team's trip to the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia in Athens, where bagged bread was donated to 14 counties across the Northeast Georgia area.   Serving as one of two women's tennis players on the Student Athletic Advisory Committee, Patterson is a part of the student athlete leadership group composed of 83 student-athletes.
The distinction does not mark the first time the veteran leader has been recognized for her work off the court. The finance major, a native of Roswell, Ga., earned ITA Scholar Athlete honors this fall, and has also been distinguished as the recipient of the Cohodes/Jordan Award for team spirit.
Patterson has been an asset to the Georgia women's tennis program for four years. In the fall, the senior put up a 6-1 mark on the court before being a part of the No. 8 Bulldogs' 15-5 regular season.
Georgia heads to Knoxville, Tennessee for the SEC Tournament this weekend. After earning a double bye, the fourth-seeded Bulldogs will play in the quarterfinals on Friday at 6 p.m.
