ST. LOUIS --- The Georgia gymnastics team finished sixth at the SEC Championship with a 196.350 on Saturday at the Chaifetz Arena in St. Louis, Missouri.
LSU won the conference championship with a final score of 197.400, and the Tigers were followed by Alabama (196.975), Florida (196.825), Kentucky (196.550) and Arkansas (196.425). Georgia finished ahead of Auburn (195.650) and Missouri (196.100).
"Our gymnasts fought through today," head coach Courtney Kupets Carter said. "It's all about the landings and we did not have as many as we hoped today. We saw some really great routines today and there are a lot of positives to keep us moving towards regionals."
Georgia began competition on beam, posting a 49.025. Senior Vivi Babalis and junior Sydney Snead tied for the team lead in the event with a pair of 9.875s, and sophomore Rachel Dickson followed close behind with a 9.8.
Georgia scored three 9.825s on floor from Babalis, Dickson, and sophomore Sabrina Vega. Snead contributed a 9.8 as the squad posted a 49.075 for the event.
Snead led the way for Georgia on vault with a 9.9 from the anchor spot to put a bow on a 49.150 for the rotation. The GymDogs got back-to-back-to-back 9.8s from freshman Marissa Oakley, senior Jasmine Arnold, and Vega to begin the event. Dickson posted a 9.85 prior to Snead's effort.
Dickson and Snead paced the GymDogs in the final rotation on bars with a pair of 9.850s. Oakley also contributed a 9.825, while freshman Emily Schild and senior Natalie Vaculik turned in scores of 9.8 to produce a 49.125 in the rotation.
The GymDogs will find out their NCAA regional destination during the NCAA Selection Show, which will stream Monday, March 26, at 4 p.m. ET on NCAA.com.
