Snead's Perfect 10 is the first by a GymDog since Brittany Rogers earned a pair of 10's on vault at UCLA in 2016. It marks the first perfect 10 inside of Stegeman Coliseum since Grace Taylor on beam in 2010 and the first on floor since Courtney Kupets in 2009 (also against Florida). The Raleigh, North Carolina native took home the floor and all-around titles against the Gators.
"The crowd was so into my routine, which definitely helped me out," Snead said. "Everyone before me had done well, so I was hoping it was a 9.9 or a good score. I had no idea it was going to be a 10. I saw the crowd go crazy, and I was thinking maybe it was for my floor routine. Then I saw the 10 turnaround and I said, 'Oh my gosh I cannot believe this is real'."
"I was so excited for Sydney," Georgia head coach Courtney Kupets Carter said. "She really did do a perfect routine- based on her tumbling, her height in the air, her landing, the control that we've been working on, her leaps, her performance- it was exactly what it's supposed to be. I can't even put it to words. You could see it on her face. She's a student-athlete that really does show her routine from her facial expression."
The GymDogs opened on vault, scoring a 49.050. Snead had the first 9.9 of the night, reaching a new season high for the event. Senior Lauren Johnson scored a 9.850 and Rachel Dickson posted a 9.800.
Senior Natalie Vaculik paced Georgia on bars, scoring a 9.850. Freshman Emily Schild made her career debut posting a 9.250. Georgia finished bars with a score of 48.475.
Heading into the third rotation, the Gators led 98.900 to Georgia's 97.525. The Bulldogs opened beam with Snead scoring a 9.800. Senior Jasmine Arnold followed, posting a career-high 9.800. Freshman Marissa Oakley scored a team-high for the night on beam with a 9.850. Senior Vivi Babalis and sophomore Sabrina Vega each contributed scores of 9.825.
After lighting up Stegeman Coliseum, Georgia and Florida entered the final events of the evening. Arnold dazzled the crowd to open the floor event, earning a career-high 9.875. The stellar performances continued with senior Vivi Babalis tying her season-high of 9.875. Then, Snead scored the first perfect 10 in front of a Georgia crowd since 2010, the first of her career. Rachel Dickson contributed a 9.825 before Vega wrapped up competition with a 9.925. Georgia ended with a 49.500 on floor to close the gap against the Gators.
The GymDogs are back in Stegeman Coliseum Friday, February 23 against the LSU Tigers. The meet is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. on the SEC Network.
