UGA Soccer Camps Open For Registration

December 12, 2018 | Soccer

ATHENS, Ga. --- Georgia soccer head coach Billy Lesesne and the Bulldog program have announced the dates for 2019 UGA Soccer Camps, as registration is now open on the camp website.

"We are excited to announce our camp dates for 2019 and immediately open our online registration," Lesesne said. "Our staff looks to build our clinic and camp curriculums on the platform of success in player development that we have established throughout our tenure here at the University of Georgia. Assembling a knowledgeable and professional coaching staff that is dedicated to teaching and player development is paramount to our philosophy. Utilizing the outstanding facilities here at UGA enhances our camper experience and raises the level of our camp quality. We're looking forward to developing many campers this year."

This year's camps offer a total of six sessions with one in January and April, and the rest throughout the months of June and July. The camps are designed to maximize each camper's experience through technical and tactical training in a challenging and fun atmosphere while providing all participants an in-depth opportunity to grow and develop as a player.

The Winter ID Camp will be the first session and will be held January 6. The Spring ID Camp will be the next session, held on April 14. These sessions are open to girls who are rising freshmen to seniors in high school. These camps are a chance to work with the current coaching staff at Georgia Soccer. The sessions are small sided technical in the morning and more tactical in the afternoon. These camps will give players a chance to see more about Georgia Soccer and an in-depth view of the facilities.

The Georgia Soccer Day Camp will take place from June 3-7 for girls and boys ages 6-13. The sessions will be from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. each day. Day Camp is focused on teaching fundamental skills and introducing basic game strategy. This is an outstanding camp for those just learning soccer or for those already playing on competitive teams.

There will be three Residential Camps, including one Elite Residential Camp.

Residential Camp I  will be held June 9-12 for girls ages 12-18.  Residential Camp II will be held from June 13-16 and is open to boys and girls ages 12-18. The Elite Residential Camp will be held July 19-21 for girls who are rising freshmen to seniors in high school and is designed to target those who wish to play at the collegiate level.

These camps will include technical, tactical, and goalkeeper training, as well as evening matches. Players will be exposed to advanced techniques for shooting, dribbling, receiving, turning, heading, and more. Coaches will take players through each step of the techniques to ensure proper development and execution. The staff will help organize teams into an effective system of play and teach players their roles within that system. Topics covered include principles of attack and defense, switching fields, overlapping, and organizing the box. Teams will get to test what they have learned in the evening matches. Goalkeepers will receive separate instruction from the field players led by Katie Ely, the Georgia Bulldogs' Goalkeepers Coach. Proper technique for diving, boxing, parrying, and distribution is emphasized.
