Bulldogs Swept by Razorbacks

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Georgia volleyball fell to Arkansas Friday evening in straight sets at Barnhill Arena (23-25, 13-25, 19-25).
 
Anna Kate Karstens led the Georgia (13-11, 4-9) offense with eight kills while Rachel Ritchie, Mallory Hernandez, and Majesti Bass all had seven. 
 
Defensively, libero Claire Rothenberger registered 13 digs while Bass had three blocks. 
 
The opening frame began with both teams going point-for-point. A 4-1 run by the Bulldogs put Georgia ahead by two, 12-10. Arkansas immediately responded with five-straight points to take a 15-12 lead and force a timeout from the Georgia bench. Georgia worked a 4-0 run of its own to retake the lead, 18-17, and force the Razorbacks into a timeout. Georgia was the first to 20 but Arkansas used three-straight to retake the lead late, 22-20. The Bulldogs tied it at 22 but Arkansas wrapped the set winning three of the last four rallies, 25-23. Hernandez led the Bulldogs with four kills in the opening set followed by Bass with three. 
 
Set one featured 15 ties and the lead changed hands seven times. 
 
Arkansas opened the second set with an 8-2 lead on the Bulldogs and led by as much as 10, 19-9. Georgia turned three-straight points to narrow the lead to 19-12; however, Arkansas took six of the next seven rallies to win set two and go ahead 2-0 in the match, 25-13. 
 
The Bulldogs opened the third set with a 4-1 lead that they continued building on to a five-point advantage, 10-5. Arkansas began chipping away at the lead, eventually taking its first lead of the set at 13-12. Following a timeout by Georgia, Arkansas won the next two, 15-12, forcing the Bulldogs to use their final timeout. Arkansas' 8-1 run ended with the Razorbacks ahead 18-13. Arkansas wrapped up the sweep with a 25-19 win in set three. 
 
The final road match of the season is Sunday at #24 Missouri. First serve from Columbia, Missouri is set for 2 p.m., ET, on the SEC Network+.
