ATHENS, Ga. – The University of Georgia swimming and diving teams produced a pair of victories against the South Carolina Gamecocks with final scores of 178-111 for the men and 171-124 for the women on Saturday at Gabrielsen Natatorium.

"We were better than we were a week ago, just across the board," said Tom Cousins swimming and diving head coach Jack Bauerle. "Not every swim but most of the swims. Our goal this week was to improve here because I was not totally satisfied last week. We will get better next week than we are now. But, we're really happy."

The No. 11 Lady Bulldogs (2-1, 2-1) notched nine first place finishes posted by four swimmers. Sophomore Courtney Harnish and freshman Olivia Carter led for the women with three victories apiece.

The No. 9 men posted 11 first place finishes spread between seven different swimmers. Four men had two first place victories: sophomore Camden Murphy, freshman Andrew Abruzzo, and seniors James Guest and Alex BeMiller.

The Bulldogs (1-1, 1-1) collectively swept the top three spots in seven events, three on the men's and four on the women's. These included the men's 1000-yard freestyle, the women's 100-yard backstroke, the men's and women's 200-yard butterfly, the women's 200-yard backstroke, the men's 50-yard freestyle, and the women's 500-yard freestyle.

After finishing first in both 200-yard medley relays, Harnish and sophomore Greg Reed touched the wall first in the 1,000-yard freestyle. Reed reached a new career-high time of 9:00.22.

Harnish and Walker Higgins continued in the 200-yard freestyle, before Dickinson won her first 100-yard backstroke of the day. The next Bulldog winner was Guest, who used a 54.65 time to add nine points to the Georgia total.

Carter and Murphy struck next in the 200-yard butterfly, followed by a 50-yard freestyle win from senior Alex BeMiller. BeMiller added his second victory of the meet in the next event, the 100-yard freestyle, which was also topped by junior Veronica Burchill, who used a career-high.

"Veronica Burchill, she won one, she is our solid rock, she's great," said Bauerle. "We rally behind her, and she was great today on the relay which is so typical of her."

After Dickinson won her second backstroke of the day – the second time this season the freshman has done so – her fellow classmate Abruzzo registered his first collegiate first-place finish.

For the second-straight week, Guest won the 200-yard breaststroke and Harnish won the 500-yard freestyle. Junior Kevin Miller reached the wall first in the 500-yard freestyle, before Carter and Murphy swept another butterfly competition to seal the Georgia victory.

The Bulldogs return to the pool deck from November 29 to December 1 to kick off the Georgia Fall Invitational at the Gabrielsen Natatorium.
