Bulldogs Stand Third In Hawaii Tournament

LAHAINA, Hawaii --- The No. 11-ranked Georgia men's golf team stands third after one round of the Ka'anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational.
On Friday, led by freshman Trent Phillips and junior Spencer Ralston, the Bulldogs posted a 16-under 268 on the Royal Ka'anapali Golf Course's par-71, 6,700-yard layout on Maui. The Bulldogs are six shots shy of Clemson, which opened in the lead at 22-under 262, and two in back of California (266).
Phillips signed for a 6-under 65 as he opened with three straight birdies Friday and recorded six total during his bogey-free round. He is now 9-for-9 with rounds in the 60s to begin his collegiate career and he lowered his season average to 67.55. Phillips stands fourth as UCLA's Patrick Murphy and Clemson's Zack Gordon each fired an 8-under 63 to top the individual board.
Ralston is the next Bulldog in eighth individually as he carded a 5-under 66. Ralston notched an eagle and five birdies during his loop.
Sophomore Davis Thompson finished at 3-under 68 and freshman Will Kahlstorf signed for a 2-under 69. Sophomore John Hilliard Catanzaro had the Bulldogs' non-counting score of 1-under 70. Competing as an individual, junior Trevor Phillips landed at 1-under 70.
Saturday's shotgun start will be at 2:30 p.m, while Sunday's round will begin at 1:30 p.m. Live results can be found at Golfstat.com.
