ATHENS, Ga. — Javyn Nicholson, a five-star forward from Collins Hill High School in Lawrenceville, Georgia, has signed a national letter of intent with the Georgia Lady Bulldogs basketball team, head coach Joni Taylor announced on Monday.
Nicholson is ranked No. 6 nationally among forwards and No. 38 overall according to ESPNW. She is the second signee of Georgia's 2019 class, which includes top-30, five-star guard Chloe Chapman from Mitchellville, Maryland. Nicholson and Chapman will be freshmen during the 2019-20 season.
"We are always excited to sign a player of Javyn's caliber, but it makes it extra special when it is a homegrown prospect from the state of Georgia," Taylor said. "She really can do it all on both ends of the floor. She has great hands, she can face up and she plays well defensively. When we recruit a player, it's important that they fit into our program. Javyn is a high character young lady who works extremely hard on and off the court and will be a great representative of the University of Georgia."
Nicholson preps at Collins Hill High School under head coach Brian Harmon. This past year, she averaged 11.6 points, 9.2 rebounds and nearly two blocks a game as the Eagles finished with a 25-3 record following a berth in the quarterfinals of the state playoffs.
The 6-foot-3 forward was named to the Georgia Coaches Association All-State Team and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Class AAAAAAA Second Team. In 2017, Nicholson was one of 35 players to be invited to the USA Basketball Women's Under-16 National Team trials.
Entering her senior season, she is one of just five players on the 2018-19 GHSA Preseason All-State Team.
Nicholson is Georgia's second signee of the early signing period, which runs from Nov. 14-21.
