Softball Announces Additions to 2019, 2020 Rosters

ATHENS, Ga. – The Georgia softball program has announced the addition of seven student-athletes. The group includes two transfers and two early enrollees for the 2019 season with three additions to the 2020 roster. 
 
Right-handed pitcher Alley Cutting (Grand Island, New York) will transfer to Georgia from Kennesaw State. Catcher Hannah Coulter (Cochran, Georgia) comes to Athens from Gordon State College in Barnesville, Georgia. Both Cutting and Coulter will be with the team for the 2019 campaign. 
 
The freshman signing class includes a trio of Georgia natives. Right-handed pitcher Laura Bishop (Woodstock High School), first baseman/utility player Jaiden Fields (Kennesaw), and infielder Sara Mosley (Ellijay) have elected to stay in state for their collegiate softball careers. Bishop and Fields will early enroll at UGA and will be with the team in 2019. 
 
A pair of California natives including infielder Sydney Kuma (Fresno) and right-handed pitcher Shelby Maier (San Diego) will join the Bulldogs for 2020. 
 
Laura Bishop | RHP | Woodstock, Ga. | Woodstock High School
Bishop comes to Athens by way of Woodstock High School where she was a two-time Region Pitcher of the Year (2015, 2018) and four-year all-region performer for Woodstock. An all-state honorable mention as a freshman, she helped guide the Wolverines to a Region championship and an appearance in the Sweet Sixteen in the state championship. Woodstock finished her rookie campaign 25-7 on the season as she recorded a 1.4 ERA with 143 strikeouts in the circle while hitting .314 with five home runs and 29 RBI. She concluded her high school career in the Fall being named the Region Pitcher of the Year, all-state, and first team all-region while once again making a Sweet Sixteen appearance in the state. She most recently played club for Georgia Power Demarini Gold where she pitched and played first base. 
 
Off the softball diamond, Bishop also played basketball in high school and is a standout student in the classroom, earning multiple academic awards. 
 
She is the daughter of Marla and Robert Bishop. Her older brother, Joshua, is currently a third-year journalism major at UGA. 
 
Bishop will early enroll at UGA and will be with the Bulldogs in the Spring of 2019. 
 
Hannah Coulter | Catcher | Cochran, Georgia | Gordan State College
A catcher, Coulter comes to Athens from Gordan State College in Barnesville, Georgia. In one season with the Highlanders, Coulter was named first team all-conference, Second Team NFCA All-Region South Team, as well as NJCAA All-Academic Team and NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete. She hit .312 last season and drove in 23 runs. She recorded a .347 on-base clip with a .464 slugging. From behind the plate, Coulter threw out 12 runners on the base paths. 
 
Coulter played four years for Bleckley County High School, mainly at catcher. She was a three-time first team all-region performer and was twice named the best defensive player for the Royals. She capped her high school career with a second team all-state award. She was also the goalkeeper on the soccer team for two seasons. She graduated fifth in her class in May 2017. She was a member of One Act, BETA Club, DECA Club, and graduated with honors. She also earned the leadership award as a junior and senior. 
 
She is the daughter of Jennifer and Shane Coulter. She intends to major in business management at Georgia. 
 
Alley Cutting | RHP | Grand Island, New York | Kennesaw State
Cutting transfers from Kennesaw State and will be with the Bulldogs for the 2019 season. She will join the Bulldogs as a redshirt-junior. She is the back-to-back reigning Atlantic Sun Pitcher of the Year while earning First Team All-Conference honors both seasons and All-Freshman Team accolades in 2017. She also picked up Third Team NFCA All-South Region honors last season for the Owls. In 2017, she made 38 appearances, starting 31 games, and posted a 20-10 record, 2.19 ERA, 16 complete game and two saves. She worked 201.1 innings and struck out 186 batters, while limiting opponents to a .228 average. She ranked third in the ASUN in wins, innings pitched, strikeouts, and fifth in ERA. In 2018, she started 24 games and appeared in 34, finishing with a 17-10 record and 1.89 ERA. She fanned 161 batters in 174.0 innings pitched. 
 
For Grand Island Senior High School, Cutting was a three-time First Team Niagara Frontier League All-Star, was named the 2013-14 Niagara Frontier League Player of the Year, as well as a First-Team All-Area All-Star Team Large School selection after registering five shutouts, two no-hitters and one perfect game during her junior season. The three-time scholar-athlete, she was also named to Niagara Gazette All-Area Softball Team as a freshman and also earned the Most Outstanding Female Athlete as a freshman for GISHS. An all-area all-star honorable mention as a sophomore, she recorded a no-hitter with 16 strikeouts in the sectional quarterfinal for the Vikings and finished the season with a 14-4 record. She was a member of the Mizuno Showcase and Rock Gold travel ball teams and helped lead her Team Mizuno 16U team to two American Softball Association national championships.
 
Alley is the daughter of Candace and John Cutting. She has a younger brother, Caleb. She intends to major in psychology at Georgia. 
 
Jaiden Fields | 1B/Utility | Kennesaw, Ga. | Harrison High School
Fields comes to Athens by way of Harrison High School in Kennesaw where she has been a four-year varsity starter for the Hoyas. She's a two-time first team all-state performer and was named the county player of the year following her junior campaign. In her career, Harrison HS has gone 94-42 on the diamond including wrapping up Fields' senior season with a 27-10 record and hoisting a state championship in 2018. Fields hit .548 as a senior, knocking 15 home runs and driving in 42 runs. She slugged 1.068 with a .656 on-base clip. As a junior, she finished with a .453 batting average with 30 RBI and seven home runs. She also made 12 appearances in the circle for the Hoyas. Off the diamond, she also played basketball and is an honor roll student. 
 
Fields' club team, the Georgia Impact, won the 2018 PGF National Championship. 
 
Jaiden is the daughter of JoAnn and Ivant Fields. She has two siblings, Justin and Jessica. Justin is a quarterback for the Georgia football team. Their father played football for Eastern Kentucky. She intends to major in broadcast journalism at Georgia. 
 
Fields will early enroll at UGA and will be with the Bulldogs in the Spring of 2019. 
 
Sydney Kuma | Infield | Fresno, California | Washington Union High School
A product of Fresno, California, Kuma comes to Georgia after a two-year career at Washington Union High School. She is a three-sport athlete for the Panthers, participating in soccer and volleyball aside from softball. She was named the league MVP during her junior softball campaign as well as her junior soccer season. The third baseman hit .585 last season as a junior with 10 home runs and 21 runs driven in while scoring 47 runs and only striking out twice in 95 plate appearances. She slugged 1.323 with a .716 on-base percentage. In the circle, she finished 8-4 with a 1.63 ERA in 17 appearances and 90.1 innings pitched. She fanned 175 opposing hitters. Prior to Washington Union, she was a three-sport athlete for Caruthers Blue Raiders as a freshman and sophomore. As a freshman, Kuma helped lead Caruthers to a 21-4-3 record and a league championship. Kuma hit .622 with nine home runs, three triples, 14 doubles, 40 RBIs and 42 runs, and slugged 1.195. She was 20-4 with 260 strikeouts in 164 innings. As a sophomore, she hit .613 with five home runs. In the circle, she finished the season 12-4 in 18 appearances. 
 
On the soccer field, Kuma scored 82 goals in her two seasons at Caruthers and 14 as a junior at WUHS. During her senior volleyball campaign this Fall, she averaged 5.4 kills/set (605 total kills) while hitting .245 as an outside hitter with 59 service aces along with 389 digs. 
 
She is the daughter of Kelli and David Kuma. She has three younger brothers: Keanu, Julian, and Jaxson. She intends to major in sport medicine or sport management at Georgia. 
 
Shelby Maier | RHP | San Diego, California | The Bishop's School
Maier, a native of San Diego, has been a staple in the circle for The Bishop's School during her career. She began her career being named the back-to-back Coastal League Pitcher of the Year as a freshman and sophomore. As a freshman, Maier worked a 1.90 ERA, a 13-4 record, making 22 appearances with 16 starts. Her sophomore campaign concluded with a 2.58 ERA and a 17-8 record in 25 appearances. She pitched 28 complete games in her first two seasons. Maier also hit .355 with 33 RBI and eight home runs as a sophomore. She missed last season, her junior season, with an ACL injury but was still named a team captain. 
 
Aside from softball, Maier has also participated in water polo while being an honor roll student in the classroom and an active member of FCA. 
 
She is the daughter of Karina and Joseph Maier. She has a younger brother, Joseph, who plays baseball. She intends to major in mechanical engineering at Georgia. 
 
Sara Mosley | Infield | Ellijay, Georgia | Gilmer High School
Mosley, a Georgia native, signs with UGA from Gilmer High School. She is a two-time all-region player and earned region player of the year and all-state honors as a junior. She began her career hitting .436 in her rookie campaign, helping the Bobcats to a 27-9 record. She was awarded the team offensive award and earned second team all-region accolades. She missed most of her sophomore season with a hip injury but still hit .371 in 12 games. As a junior, Mosley hit .515 with a 1.166 slugging percentage and .573 on-base percentage. She knocked 10 home runs and drove in 32 runs with nine doubles. Her shortened senior season was highlighted by a .562 batting average with five home runs. 
 
Her club team, the Georgia Impact, won nine state titles and was ranked sixth in the country. 
 
She is the daughter of Denice Mosley. She has an older sister, Samantha, and younger identical twin brothers, Mel and Rob. Her cousin, Alex Stolz, went to UGA. 
 
The 2019 softball season begins in February.
