November 16, 2018 | Men's Tennis

ATHENS, Ga. - Tyler Zink, a blue-chip recruit out of Bradenton, Florida, has signed a national letter of intent with the Georgia men's tennis team, head coach Manuel Diaz announced on Friday.

Zink is entering his senior season at IMG Academy ranked as the eighth-best prospect nationally according to tennisrecruting.net. He is widely regarded as one of the top prospects in the nation and will be an eligible freshman on the Georgia men's team beginning with the 2019-20 season.

"We are incredibly impressed with Tyler," Diaz said. "His character off the court and drive on the court are both exceptional. He will fit perfectly with our program's goals and core values and he will help attract similar kids who share those same values. We are excited to welcome him to Athens and look forward to watching him develop here at the University of Georgia."

Zink has competed in Roland Garros, Wimbledon and the U.S. Open junior grand slams and will play in all four grand slams this coming year. The 6-foot right hander also made the quarterfinals of the prestigious Orange Bowl and has a career-high No. 43 ITF world ranking.

"My goal is to become a professional tennis player," Zink said. "I feel like Manny Diaz and Jamie Hunt are two coaches that are able to get me there. I felt Georgia was the right decision and I'm happy about it."

He is the first signee of Coach Diaz's 2019 class. The signing period began on Nov. 14.
