PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. – The final Bulldog contingent lost in the doubles back draw Saturday afternoon to conclude Georgia's play in the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships.
The sixth-ranked duo of Elena Christofi and Morgan Coppoc dropped a close 8-6 decision to No. 10 Alle Sanford and Sara Daavettila of North Carolina at the Riviera Tennis Club.
Junior Marta Gonzalez provided the first highlights for Georgia, going 2-1 in singles qualifying, which included the highest ranked-win in her career over No. 30 Christina Rosca of Vanderbilt. In the main singles draw, sophomore Katarina Jokic tallied two wins to reach the Round of 8, earning a berth into the 2018 Oracle/ITA National Fall Championships held in Surprise, Arizona from Nov. 7-11.
"It was a good week out here in many ways," Georgia associate head coach Drake Bernstein said. "All four of our players will head back to Athens with the next step in the development in mind. We have a couple weeks to put in work before Regionals. We will be looking to polish up on some fundamentals and add new elements to our game before then."
In prequalifying singles, Coppoc lost two matches, while Christofi fell in her only match – all ranked opponents. The Bulldog duo went 0-2 in the tournament but faced two top-25 teams.
Next, Georgia will compete in the ITA Southeast Regional Championships held on the campus of Georgia Tech, occurring Oct. 18-22.
