Jokic Wins Season Debut at Riviera/ITA All-American Championships

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. – Sophomore Katarina Jokic breezed past her opponent Thursday afternoon in the first round of the singles main draw at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships.

Jokic, ranked 8th in ITA singles, defeated No. 32 Natalia Novotna, a junior from Virginia Tech, 6-3, 6-1 to open the 32-player field at the Riviera Tennis Club. It marked the Bulldog's first match of the season after a freshman campaign that featured ITA All-America Singles honors, the ITA Southeast Regional Rookie of the Year award, and the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Year award.

"Kat had a great start to her fall season today," Georgia associate head coach Drake Bernstein said. "She was composed from start to finish and that definitely paid off in the big points today."

Next, Jokic advances to the round of 16 to face No. 24 Emily Arbuthnott of Stanford Friday at a time released later tonight. The two met on the court once before in the round of 32 of the 2017 Oracle/ITA National Fall Championships where Arbuthnott outlasted Jokic in a third-set.

In the doubles main draw, Elena Christofi and Morgan Coppoc, ranked No. 6 in ITA doubles, fell to Stanford's 17th-ranked twosome of Caroline Lampl and Kimberly Yee, 8-2. Christofi and Coppoc enter the back draw Friday with a matchup TBA.
