ATHENS, Ga. — University of Georgia men's tennis senior Jan Zielinski continued his already impressive fall campaign with a pair of wins Sunday at the 2018 ITA Southeast Regional.
Playing in front of a home crowd at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex, Zielinski earned his team-leading 14th singles win of the fall season to advance to Monday's quarterfinals round.
The Warsaw, Poland native ousted Florida Gulf Coast's Felipe Ramirez in the Round of 32, before taking down UCF's Trey Hilderbrand in the Round of 16. Zielinski's quarterfinals match will start at 10 a.m. Monday in Athens.
"Jan continues to play at a high level this fall," head coach Manuel Diaz said. "I know he has worked hard to improve his overall game since last season, and it's great to see his hard work paying off. Our team fought through some tough matches today, but Jan was definitely the highlight along with freshman Blake Croyder who rebounded to get two consolation wins. This has been a good experience for our guys and we are ready to get back out here tomorrow."
Croyder defeated Tobias Sonne in straight-sets and then won in a third-set tiebreaker against Giles Hussey from Georgia State, 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (3).
Main draw singles quarterfinals and semifinals, along with the doubles quarterfinals round, will take place on Monday beginning at 10 a.m.
