FORT WORTH, Texas --- Georgia's Trent Phillips finished third for the second straight event on Tuesday in the Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational at Colonial Country Club.
Playing the par-70, 7,209-yard layout, Phillips fired a final-round 1-under 69 to wind up at 4-under 206. Phillips was two shy of Duke's Chandler Eaton (204) and one in back of Clemson's Bryson Nimmer (205) in the individual race.
Phillips, a freshman from Inman, S.C., remained perfect with rounds in the 60s to begin his Georgia career. In fact, he made a birdie on his last hole on Tuesday to keep the streak intact. Through six collegiate loops, Phillips has a scoring average of 67.83. Last month, he placed third in The Carmel Cup at 15-under 201.
The Bulldogs placed 10th in the team competition at 23-over 863, including a final-round 13-over 293. Duke claimed top honors at 2-under 838, followed by Vanderbilt (4-over 844) and Wake Forest (6-over 846).
Junior Will Chandler signed for a 4-over 74, followed by junior Spencer Ralston and sophomore Davis Thompson both at 5-over 75. Redshirt junior Tye Waller had the Bulldogs' non-counting round of 7-over 77. Chandler landed at 7-over 217, followed by Ralston and Thompson each at 11-over 221, and Waller at 14-over 224.
The Bulldogs will return to action in the Jack Nicklaus Invitational in Dublin, Ohio, Oct. 8-9.
