Carle Just Shy of Medaling in Home Country

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina – Georgia women's tennis freshman Lourdes Carle, an Argentina native, finished competition a win short of a bronze Friday afternoon in the 2018 Youth Olympic Games. 
 
In the bronze match of the women's doubles event, Carle and Columbian teammate Maria Camila Osorio Serrano lost to the Chinese tandem of Xinyu Wang and Xiyu Wang, 7-5, 6-3. In the 16-team bracket, Carle and Osorio Serrano notched two wins prior to losing to the Chinese contingent that are each top-5 ranked junior players worldwide according to ITF Tennis.
 
Carle concluded action in the mixed doubles event Thursday after she and fellow Argentinean Sebastian Baez fell in the second round to France's Clara Burel and Gaston Hugo in the 64-team field. 
 
 In the first round of singles, Carle lost to her doubles teammate Osorio Serrano who is the sixth-ranked junior in ITF Tennis.
 
The Youth Olympic Games are an elite sporting event for young people from all over the world aged from 15 to 18. The Summer Youth Olympic Games feature over 3,500 athletes and are held over a 12-day period. The first summer edition was held in Singapore from August 14-26 in 2010. 
 
The Bulldogs are back in action together in the ITA Southeast Regional Championships, occurring Thursday, Oct. 18 and going through Monday, Oct. 22 on the campus of Georgia Tech in Atlanta.
