Bulldog and Atlanta native to participate in ATP event

ATHENS, Ga. — Emil Reinberg, a rising junior on the University of Georgia men's tennis team, has received a main draw doubles wild card bid into the 2017 BB&T Atlanta Open, tournament director Eddie Gonzalez has announced.

Reinberg joins Georgia Gwinnett's Jordan Cox as the two recipients of this year's doubles wild card bids. The ATP World Tour top-250 event runs from July 22-30 at Atlantic Station in Atlanta. This year's BB&T Atlanta Open will feature a 28-payer main singles draw, with four players coming from qualifying, as well as a 16-team draw in doubles. Reinberg's match time is still being determined by tournament officials.

"It is an incredible honor to be invited to play in an event like this," Reinberg said. "The BB&T Atlanta Open has done so much for college tennis. It gives college players a great opportunity to gain experience on a big stage, and I want to personally thank tournament director Eddie Gonzalez for letting me be a part of this year's event. I am excited to represent the University of Georgia and play against some of the best in the game of tennis."

The 2017 SEC Tournament Most Valuable Player and All-SEC second team member has put together an impressive summer. Reinberg reached the singles semifinals of back-to-back International Tennis Federation Circuit events in Tulsa and Wichita, while also making the doubles semifinals in Wichita. During the 2016-17 campaign at Georgia, the Atlanta native recorded a team-best 35 singles wins and paired with freshman Nathan Ponwith on the No. 2 doubles court.
