INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. --- The Georgia men's swimming and diving team claimed eighth place as the 2017 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships concluded Saturday at the Indiana University Natatorium.

The Bulldogs finished the four-day event with 183 points. Texas claimed the team title with 542, followed by California with 349, Florida with 294.5, N.C. State with 272.5, Stanford with 242, Southern Cal with 237 and Indiana. Georgia snared its ninth top-10 finish in the last 10 seasons.

"Our guys were magnificent in their efforts all week," Georgia coach Jack Bauerle said. "This meet is always a battle. I'm so proud of the way we fought and the energy we had. These guys gave us everything they had in the tank."

In the 200 butterfly, Gunnar Bentz claimed third in 1:40.07, breaking the school record of 1:40.17 set by Pace Clark in 2016. Clark took fourth in 1:40.41, while Chase Kalisz was disqualified due to a false start.

Taylor Dale and Jay Litherland rewrote the Georgia record book in the 200 backstroke on Saturday. Dale went 1:40.03 during the prelims to eclipse the school mark of 1:40.37 set by Ty Stewart in 2014. Then in the finals, Litherland matched the 1:40.03 as he placed 10th. Dale, in his final race as a Bulldog, took 13th in 1:40.35.

ESPNU will air highlights shows from the NCAAs on Tuesday at 7 p.m. for the women and on Wednesday, April 5, at 5 p.m. for the men.
