ATHENS, Ga. — The 14th-ranked Georgia men's tennis team will continue its conference schedule this week with home matches against LSU and Alabama on Thursday and Saturday, respectively.
The Bulldogs (9-6, 5-0 SEC) will take on the Tigers (5-11, 1-4) in a match that will be streamed live on WatchESPN and the ESPN app as part of the United States Tennis Association's College MatchDay series. First serve between Georgia and LSU is set for 6 p.m. Thursday evening. Saturday's match between the Bulldogs and the Crimson Tide (8-11, 1-5) is set for a 5 p.m. start. Both matches will be played at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
The match against LSU Thursday night will be the 63rd all-time meeting between the two teams. Georgia won the last match, 4-3, on April 3 of last season, while the Tigers have not won against the Bulldogs since 2003, a streak of 16 matches. Alabama will be making its second trip to the Classic City this season, although last time, it was for ITA Kick-Off weekend and the Tide and Bulldogs did not face off. Georgia has won 54 of 60 all-time matches in the series, including each of the last 14. The last time the Tide beat Georgia was in 2003.
Last week, the Bulldogs went toe-to-toe with the nation's top-ranked team, Wake Forest, before falling 4-3. The match against the Demon Deacons was highlighted by the performance of Jan Zielinski and Robert Loeb, who defeated the now-No. 1 and then-No. 2 pair of Skander Mansouri and Christian Seraphim to clinch the doubles point. Following the loss to Wake Forest on Friday, Georgia traveled to Tennessee and defeated the Volunteers, 4-3, who were ranked No. 43. Zielinski and Loeb again clinched the doubles point, having done so in five-straight matches, and are now ranked No. 8 in the country. Georgia is 5-0 in SEC play for the fourth year in a row as it looks to capture its fifth-consecutive SEC title.
Following the two matches this weekend, the Bulldogs will hit the road to take on 15th-ranked Mississippi State on Thursday before going to Auburn to face the Tigers on Saturday.
