Loeb Named SEC Freshman of the Week

ATHENS, Ga. — University of Georgia men's tennis freshman Robert Loeb has been named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week for his efforts in guiding the Bulldogs to back-to-back wins against Ole Miss and Arkansas.
This is the second time this season the Hilton Head, S.C., native has garnered Freshman of the Week honors. The previous recognition came on Feb. 22, after the Bulldogs shutout Utah State in the first of now five consecutive wins.
"Like so many of the guys on this young team, Robert continues to improve each and every day," head coach Manuel Diaz said. "We have been so impressed with the composure he has shown, particularly in this last match when he was in a must-win situation with our team down 3-2 to Arkansas. He really stepped up for us, delivered a big win and kept us in the match. That was after he clinched the doubles point, which proved to be so pivotal. He is such a pleasure to coach and I look forward to watching him continue to grow."
In two matches last weekend, Loeb finished a perfect 2-0 in singles and teamed with Jan Zielinski for the duo's sixth win in the last seven matches. Loeb celebrated his 19th Birthday against Arkansas on Sunday and played an important part in Georgia's fifth-straight win. He delivered an ace on a match point in doubles to clinch the point for the Bulldogs and won his singles matchup in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3, at the No. 6 court to tie the contest at 3-3.
Loeb, who was part of Georgia's No. 1 signing class last fall, is off to a strong start in his collegiate career. He is currently 14-11 overall in singles (6-3 in dual-match play) and 22-9 in doubles with Zielinski.
This week, Georgia welcomes No. 1 Wake Forest to the Dan Magill Tennis Complex on Friday for a 3 p.m. ET first serve.
