Bulldogs and Yellow Jackets Tangle Friday Afternoon

ATHENS, Ga. ---- The Georgia Bulldogs women's tennis team, ranked fifth in the USTA rankings, plays host to the No. 12 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Friday at 3 p.m. at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
The Bulldogs are coming off of a 7-0 victory over the Mercer Bears on Wednesday afternoon to improve to 6-1 on the season. Georgia holds a 2-1 record against ranked opponents thus far heading into the ranked Georgia Tech (8-2) match.
"We have a big match Friday versus Georgia Tech and we are ready for it," Georgia head coach Jeff Wallace said. "It's a mental battle as well as a physical battle when you are playing an in-state rival. We are looking forward to it. Georgia Tech was also at the Indoors and playing great tennis. I know they will be fired up to come over here. So we just have to get ready for that one and remain competitive. "
Freshmen Bulldogs' Elena Christofi and Marta Gonzalez shined against Mercer as both put up impressive 6-0, 6-0 wins against their opponents. Christofi, a native of Athens, Greece, is the third-highest ranked freshman in ITA's singles rankings at No. 15 and sports a team-best 18-3 record, 6-0 in duals. Gonzalez, of Madrid, Spain, contains a 3-1 duals record on court five and is 13-3 overall. The 7-0 sweep was the second of the season by the Bulldogs as they blanked the Clemson Tigers in the third match of the season.
The Yellow Jackets' strong suit lies in their doubles game as they boast two ranked tandems. On court one and ranked seventh nationally is senior Rasheeda McAdoo and junior Johnnise Renaud who are a perfect 8-0 in duals and 10-0 overall. Playing at No. 2 is the duo of junior Paige Hourigan and freshman Kenya Jones with an 8-1 record and ranked 30th. In singles, No. 71 McAdoo leads the Yellow Jackets at court one and has an 11-6 record. Georgia Tech's other ranked singles player is Nami Otsuka who checks in at No. 102 and plays mostly in the fifth spot. The Yellow Jackets are coming off of victories over Georgia Southern and Chattanooga in their first two matches after national indoors.
"I think this year doubles is going to be close with anybody we play with these six game no-lets," Wallace added. "No matter what team you play it is going to be a great doubles point. It is going to be exciting. You just have to do the little things well; you have to serve well, return well and just play the big points well because there is going to be a lot of them. That is what we are going to try to bring tomorrow."
The Bulldogs own the all-time series against the Yellow Jackets at 24-4. The two schools first met in 1984 and have played every year at least once since 1999 aside from a rainout in 2003. In that span, Georgia is 13-4 including the last six meetings. In the fall season, Georgia took four of the five singles matches and were two-for-three in doubles against Georgia Tech in the Bulldog Classic, a four-team round robin tournament that does not count as an official meeting.
