Successful First Day for Bulldogs at ITA Regionals

Atlanta, Ga. — Five Georgia tennis players advanced to the next Round of 32 in the ITA Regionals on Saturday, and all three doubles tandems moved into the quarterfinals.
No. 21 Wayne Montgomery only needed two sets to overtake Jose Garcia of Florida State 6-2, 7-6, commanding the second-set tiebreaker 7-2. Next, No. 102 Jan Zielinski came back from a 3-6 first-set defeat to top Mercer's Sam Philip 6-3, 6-3 in the final frames.
No. 101 Walker Duncan eased by University of Central Florida's Enrique Paya 6-4, 6-4 while No. 30 Emil Reinberg ousted Andrei Andrukhou of Georgia State 6-1, 7-6 with a 7-4 tiebreaker in the second set. Robert Loeb capped the singles victories for Georgia with a three-set finish over Florida Atlantic University's Thomas Guy 5-7, 6-1, 6-0. Alex Philips fell to No. 47 Guy Iradukunda of Florida State 6-4, 6-0.?
In the doubles draw, the second-ranked pair of Robert Loeb and Jan Zielinski took down Florida State's Gabriel Sidney and Jose Garcia 8-4. No. 53 Walker Duncan and Wayne Montgomery followed with an 8-3 victory over Remi Chancerel and Thomas Guy of FAU, while the Jordan Belga and Stephen Madonia duo from Florida withdrew from their match against Emil Reinberg and Alex Phillips.
